National Association for Pupil Transportation

The National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) joins fellow American School Bus Council (ASBC) members in celebrating National School Bus Safety Week.

Together with the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) and the National Association of State Directors for Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS), NAPT will honor the collaborative effort by school districts and their respective communities who work hard to ensure safety for each child that they serve.

Held during the third full week of October each year, National School Bus Safety Week is a way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other community stakeholders to join forces to promote school bus safety. Between October 19 – 23, 2020 school districts throughout the country will observe School Bus Safety Week, highlighting the theme “Red Lights Mean STOP!” A theme derived from the 2019 Poster Content where Bryan Torres-Tavarez, a 12th Grader at Stars Academy in Paterson, NJ won first place.

“Transportation is integral to education, an invaluable component for a positive and holistic educational experience. For many kids, their school day begins when they first step foot on a yellow school bus, and with that very step it becomes the responsibility of our members to ensure their safety,” said Steven Simmons, NAPT President. “At its simplest, National School Bus Safety Week is an important initiative that reminds us of why of we do the work that we do to develop world-class professionals who then provide safe and efficient pupil transportation for our children.”

Throughout the week NAPT will spotlight the importance of safety in school bus operations by sharing stories, facts, and honoring those who work hard to keep our students safe. For more information on National School Bus Safety Week, please visit https://www.napt.org/nsbsw.
